The Italian Job

We would like a special mention for Roger and Von Hunt who over the past years have raised and donated a £5,585 to the SDBTT Jodie Adams Fund. A further £1,000 has just been received bring the total donated to a massive £6,585. A fantastic achievement whilst participating in an event they love.

Every October they load up their original Rover Mini Cooper S and head of to Italy to take part in the re-enactment of the “The Italian job”. Not sure where they put everything but hey they manage to cram in a couple of Evening Gowns, Sparkly shoes with matching bag for Von and a Tuxedo for Roger.

This Mini Adventure is a cult classic car event, held annually to raise money for Children’s charities. Over the past years Roger and Von have divided what they have raised

between “The Italian Job”, Children’s Charity and Jodie’s’ charity and we can’t thank them enough.

Whilst socializing with friends in the evenings, enjoying the food and wine throughout Europe it is a race and very competitive. Winning is a prize they have held and would like to hold again.

During the day the competition is fierce. Racing around the “Imola” race track, in and out of the Italian piazzas, up and around the Alps. Every year the route varies a little but like the Tour De France there are different sections. There are some sections that have to be completed in an allotted time, other sections where there are clues that you have to answer, like a car rally, to find your way to the next designated check point. Places are won or lost in this section and can determine whether you are in the running for winning the overall trophy.

As it is a charitable event a certain amount of money has to be raised to comply with the entry rules so throughout the year they hold a variety of fund raising events, wine tasting, race nights, quiz nights, the largest of these is an Auction, held at the “Ace Café” in London with Roger being the Auctioneer.

Trevor and I have been to a few of these Auctions, and every time we have been amazed how well the Auction is supported from all different Car, Bike and Scooters clubs. Please let me assure you it is a fun evening, brilliant lots to be had and great fun, really worth a visit. Like live TV mishaps sometimes happen.

On arriving back in England all the participants, plus families and friends congregate at a designated venue for a Black Tie event to celebrate in style the success of the event and announce the overall winners.

I hope you agree, a great way to raise money whilst having fun with like minded friends from all over the globe.
