Lost youth by Beverly Ayres

Lost Youth by Beverley Ayres

Alone I drown in pools of tears,
My head hung low as if of lead.
I stare out from my eyes of red,
Afraid of all my trivial fears.

An empty hole left in my heart.
I cling to memories inside.
The distance grows, I can’t abide
To lose you; forever apart.

Sorrow flows like an endless stream,
Shrouded by a persistent ache
I reach for you and then awake
Again weighed down, it’s just a dream.

My friend you left, you were so young,
Unfair; the loss of your vast heart.
A soul with knowledge to impart
Your caring nature to be sung.

You’d brighten up the darkest day
With twinkling eyes and warming smile,
All eyes would turn and gaze a while
At the elaborate bouquet.

You travelled well, each continent
In just less than three short decades.
Your sporting passion never fades
The one obsession of content.

But so inside your mind it grew
To seal your fate, your close to night,
Still smiling you put up a fight
Although deep down within we knew.

And so my friend you’ve left us now,
We have expressed our last goodbyes
Made to release all of our ties
The time to take the final bow.

Our angel of this mortal earth
Has travelled to her final place,
Taken into His great embrace
The God who values all her worth.

And now in her eternal rest
The perfect soul is laid to sleep,
The Lord, her spirit He will keep
And leave us feeling truly blessed.
